There is a reason I've been absent for so long. I started writing a Blog - one of those throwback paeons to the good ol' days of yore (ie: my High School days) and when last I checked, I am on page 7 of a MS Word document using Times New Roman 10. I am roughly 3/4ths done, so go ahead and schedule that rainy day. A Sparks Notes version will be available shortly after.
Anyway, things are moving on the baby front. On Friday I accompanied Andi to her doc's appointment. As the exams have moved into more 'invasive' territories, I have been hanging in the waiting room reading Highlights and catching SARs of late - rather than coming into the room and goofing around with the foreceps. Usually, her visits last all of 10 minutes, so it was with slightly mounting concern that after one hour - and three viewings of Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course (I swear that movie is 18 minutes long) - that I began to get worried.
We had driven to the office in separate cars, as I needed to head to work afterward. After checking my watch, the first thing I did was scour the parking lot - looking to see if she had given me the slip. Hey, if wasn't gonna' work on the eve of our first date, it most certainly was not gonna' work now. Spying her Forester, I then returned to the office just as she was exiting the exam room.
She greeted me with that familiar statement I've certainly heard more times than I can count - "Honey, I reckon we have to go to the hospital. I'm a givin' birth.... Yeee Hawwwwww!!!!"
So it was off to the hospital we went. Actually, I am rushing things. We were not exactly on the cusp of delivery - rather she had displayed an elevated blood pressure so more tests were in order. If she could not lower her blood pressure, there was talk that she may have to be induced.
So we arrived at South Shore Hospital and settled into an exam room. Andi was hooked to a few machines, I peered arund a few corners and once the coast was clear starting yelling maniacally "IT"S AL-IVE... AL-IVE!!!! Mua Hahhh Haahhh Hahhh" and we settled in for a 3 hour tour of TNT and Dawson's Creek. (That Pacey - He's so dreamy...)
Finally the nurse returned and said we were free to go. Everything was fine. The baby was doing well and the blood pressure had gone down. Oh, and one more thing, your wife will have to be on bed rest all weekend so that leaves you to handle all the cooking, cleaning and chimp wranglin'... What, since when did I have to do all the girl work? So I thanked Nurse Betty and went on my way - returning a few hours later to collect my wife (it was an honest mistake.)
Anyway, after a weekend of non-stressful activity (including marathon viewings of The Ring and a few ill-advised bets at a Hong Kong pachinko parlor) we returned to the hospital this morning. There have been some changes and we have been told that this will most certainly be the week.
