Frickin' MyDoom virus. Now, I hate SCO as much as the next guy, but here's the thing; as SCO is not Amazon and does not seem to actually transact business through their website, does it really matter if MyDoom succeeds in taking down their site with a denial-of-service attack on Feb. 1? So people would be unable to read SCO press releases online for awhile. Who cares?
Since this is (apparently) a politically motivated virus from some Linux-loving hacker, it's a shame that they aimed so widely and ineffectually. The virus was apparently designed to avoid targeting e-mail addresses that end in .edu, at least according to Wired News. So that's something... But I wish it also didn't target me.
Here's a thought; will someone please design a virus that targets spammers? How 'bout a virus that mercilessly takes down any e-mail server that sends out e-mail that contains the words "Cheap Viagra" or "penis enlargement" or "low mortgage". Sure, some innocent medical sites would go down. But wouldn't it be worth the price?
