There's a point in every person's life, and I don't care who you are, because the term 'every person' includes all of us from Mr. T to Ladybird Johnson, there's a point that we all reach where something changes radically and you know that it's happened and everyone else participating in your life knows that it's happened, but no one really does anything about it, or really even cares.

Needless to say, I think I've reached this point. And it wasn't that big of a deal. I mean, lots of guys my age are doing it, or have done it, and they've all turned out fine. It started out just being a few minutes a day, on Super Monkey Ball, then I'd learn a new move or combination and I'd be going all afternoon. Now that I live in my parents' house, I'm done with grad school and my loving girlfriend's 160 miles away, I'm up past midnight most nights doing it.

I've matured past SMB, tho. Now I'm into NBA Live 2003, which is pretty great--much better than you'd think, considering it's an old game and I think I bought it for like $6.00.

Anyway, back to the point of this posting. I've decided that if I don't watch out, I might become one of 'those guys'. And by that I mean 'those guys who spend way too much time playing franchise mode on NBA Live 2K3 and not enough time looking for a job to justify their receiving a master's degree in a creative pursuit.'

Yeah, so, the moral of the story is that I know I have to cut back, and even when I'm playing it I question my own motive behind spending time rotting my brain and probably triggering another ocular migraine.

But when I'm not playing, I'm thinking about Eli Andrews, the make-believe shooting guard on the 2008 Seattle Sonics, a player I drafted in the first round of the 2006 draft, who can run, hit the threes and dunk like darryl dawkins and who's already rated as a 93, and is probably going to be the face of the Henry years in Seattle. (Do you see?? This is bad, very bad! I need to be thinking about how to find a job, or how to write a decent cover letter that doesn't make me sound like a total whack job).

Anyway, happy holidays.
