In the spirit of the holiday season, I'd like to give something back to the world at large, a little something to make the world a happier place.

And so, without further adieu, I shall giveth of myself these little pearls of wisdom. Free advice for those who want to make the world a better place:

  1. Read the newspaper I just watched something on C-SPAN about a book called Tuned Out, where the author posits a link between decreased awareness of the news young people's political apathy. So, to make the world a better place, educate yourself.
  2. Watch Less TV By and large, the more television you watch, the less civically minded you will be, at least according to Bowling Alone. If you watch 2 hours of television a day, that is 14 hours a week, which is basically two full work days. What would you do with two more work days a week?
  3. Pick a Fight With Someone In Your Own Political Party I don't think that I challenge my own ideas enough. I watch The Daily Show or read boingboing and get my views reverified. I need to get out there and mix it up more and listen to more alternate views, and you should too.
  4. Volunteer Good way to meet people.
  5. Read a Book Any book really, other than fiction. Fiction is great, don't get me wrong. But I mean more like The Prize or something, something that would make you smarter, or appear smarter. That's what I should do at least.

That's all I've got. Happy Holidays, everybody.
