Alright,I know I'm borrowing from Jay-Z's tremendous Black Album with the title to this entry, but I thought that it's the best way to sum up the topic. In the spirit of decline, I'd like to ask all of you who are thinking of submitting (and I encourage all of you to do so) to decline to mention where and when you were published, if at all. The truth of the matter is, I don't really care.
You want to know where I was published before this gig? I wrote a weekly poetry column for www.wildpoets.com ("The Poetry Donut") and before that had a piece up on a now defunct website called "The Poetry Box". My only print publications have been one or two little university magazines and a zine out of Central New York.
So don't fret if you've never been published. I'll read your stuff, and if I think you've got 'it' it won't matter if you write for yourself or you're a contributing editor to the Paris Review.
I honestly don't know where Pulplit stands in the world of webzines, but I think this game of listing where you've been published is tiresome. It just gets in the way of judging a poet's writing ability. So I encourage you to submit! Just leave your 'credentials' out.
